My work explores the relationship between human and nature. Human civilization has continuously tried to understand, dominate, exploit, destroy nature. Religion, science, even magic are merely attempts to understand, to determine, what nature is, how much we depend on it and how to overcome it! The dawn of organized settlements has marked the need of human to tame its natural environment. In antiquity the separation of cultivated to uncultivated areas expressed the delimitation of human impact on the surrounding areas. Wildlife gradually became a potential enemy of human organization. In ancient mythology the hero must overcome and conquer nature in order to dominate the environment and eventually control it. This simple act of taming a small part of nature, in order for human activity to spread and organize itself in well-defined settlements, was always contained within the limits of human capacity. But the evolution of our civilization and unlimited exploitation of natural resources have resulted in a form of hubris towards the natural environment. In my projects this relationship is primordial and through a variety of approaches I try to navigate the different aspects of it.
